Paco Peña Flamenco Dance Company
18 March 2012, 7pm
Described as a “revelatory troupe” in the "New York Times", the celebrated guitar maestro Paco Peña and his outstanding Flamenco Dance Company present their acclaimed new show Flamenco Vivo!.
Paco Peña leads a company featuring a stellar cast of guitarists, percussionists, vocalists and three dancers: the commanding Ramón Martinez, Charo Espino and Venezuela’s Daniella Tugues, principal dancer and co-choreographer with Las Lizarraga Dance Company. As a guitarist, composer, dramatist, producer and artistic mentor, Paco Peña embodies both the authenticity and innovation of flamenco and has transformed perceptions of this archetypal Spanish art form.
The company’s new show, Flamenco Vivo! is a musical journey that displays the high level of development of modern flamenco, and highlights the razor-sharp rhythmic complexity of its latest variations in dance, guitar and song. Bringing to life the intoxicating rhythms, colours and sounds of Andalucía, Paco Peña and his company of young talented dancers, singers and musicians set the stage alight in bursts of glorious improvisation and virtuoso flamenco technique.
Paco Peña has performed regularly with his unique hand-picked company of dancers, guitarists and singers in a succession of groundbreaking shows. The Paco Peña Flamenco Dance Company has taken flamenco into the realm of music-theatre with regular seasons in London and festival appearances in Edinburgh, Adelaide, Amsterdam, Athens, Israel, Istanbul, Singapore and Hong Kong.
