Ancient Art Gallery at the Princes Czartoryski Museum (permanent exhibition)

from 13 April 2012 gallery open for visitors: Tue-Sun 10am-4pm.

Located on the first floor of the former city Arsenal this gallery unites showpieces from the collections of the Czartoryskis, the National Museum in Krakow and a deposits from the Potocki family of Krzeszowice. It explores the culture and art of great ancient civilisations, chiefly Egypt, Greece, Etruria and Rome. This compilation is varied remarkably in terms of artistic media and techniques, combining fragments of sculptures, stones, terracotta and wooden sarcophagi, parts of murals, minor works of visual arts, ceramics (including a high-class collection of Greek vases), jewellery, glass, bronze, etc. dating back to the third millennium BC to the 7th century AD. The pride of the Gallery is a collection of Egyptian art: two anthropoid sarcophagi and mummy-shaped cartonnages made of layers of canvas glued together, as well as object of everyday use.
