If Not Now, Then When, If Not We, Then Who?
2-5 February 2012 , 7pm
The modern history of Poland reduced to the size of a ship’s deck – limiting the space for acting and introducing the strict rules of the maritime code. This is the hermetic world entered by Lamia – a contemporary girl who decides to create her own private historical narrative, thus finding and identifying her own place in history. Lamia’s journey resembles that of Alice in Wonderland. She is let through the meanders and intricacies of Polishness and difficult, cocky patriotism, by the Trout – a narrator, who enables the main character to meet the mythical figures who are so important to every Pole – Rejtan, Emilia Plater, anonymous Solidarity heroes and those involved in the painful birth of democracy. As an envoy of the youngest generation of Poles, she asks our parents inconvenient questions, demanding explanations, trying to understand the reality she lives in.
